Microbial Modelling Workshop
Researchers at Aberystwyth University recently held a workshop aimed at school children. The children were given information about rumen microbes (microscopy images and video clips) and then provided with materials (i.e. plasticine, wool, googly eye stickers, pipe cleaners etc) to make their own microbe models (see above photo).
This activity could also be made anaerobic fungal specific by getting the children to make models of the different life cycle stages (i.e. zoospore, mycelium, sporangium etc) and/or morphologies (i.e. mono or polyflagellated zoospores).
